Solid realistic view of what a WW3 might have looked like back in the day. Intense with action, but occasionally it got bogged down and difficult to follow as the technical details of submarine warfare were discussed or the narrative perspective shifted back and forth.
Probably Clancy's best book (or maybe a tie with Hunt for Red October). A very good study on how World War III could start and how it would play out.
Really interesting. Very speculative, but very well thought out, with sometimes exhausting detail.

This is my third Clancy book in as many decades and I'm thinking it will be my last. He might enjoy writing about maneuvers and acronyms, but it's no fun to read.

I absolutely loved this book. I got it as a gift one Christmas during high school and stayed up until 2 or 3am almost every night over my winter break until I had finished it. It was a spectacular story right up until the end - which I have to say I was disappointed with, but the rest of the book overcomes the ending. Reading it now make me pine for the simpler Cold War days when we knew who our enemy was and knew that when they came, it would be with obvious, overwhelming force. One of my all-time favorite books and probably my favorite Tom Clancy novel
