I love these stories because even though they’re short, so much happens. The characters are real, I’m always invested in their growth and success, and it’s simply fun!

I’m not a huge fan of chasing, to be honest, especially when one person is just nasty as hell and not in a good way. I desperately wanted Royal to leave Anika alone (probably because I’m petty but whatever). She was so mean to him, I don’t know how he did it. Plus, she’s one of those people who doesn’t know how to be alone (she was legit crying because she was lonely) but then she says she doesn’t want a relationship… Although a huge plot point was her not getting with anyone because she doesn’t want anything less than what her parents have. I just didn’t see how that contradicting shit would work but that was straightened out. Speaking of them, I love Anika’s parents! They’re not perfect, and her mom’s been grazing on my nerves, but they’re so in love it’s nice to read about them.

The best part about this series though is how family & community-centric it is. One of my favorite genres is black people living, loving, and vibing. That’s what I get from Jones’ work and another one of my favorites, Alexandria House. This was a cute story. Something entertaining to curl up with for a couple of hours.

I’m jealous of Anika. She’s living my dreams manager at a coffee shop and has an attractive co managers working with her. This was such a fun read. I felt their chemistry actually building up even though it was a shorter story it still felt so real. Also her mom texting her Merry D*ckmas is the funniest thing ever.

Anika is aghast when she learns her boss is having her train her nemesis Royal at the coffee shop she manages and runs the social media and marketing for. Plus her beloved parents are going on their dream vacation for the holidays, effectively leaving her alone for Christmas for the first time ever. Anika will find though that sometimes love is just the flip side of hate, and maybe she won't be alone for Christmas after all.

A fabulous holiday novella perfect for the season, I especially enjoyed reading one that wasn't all ho ho ho happy about the holidays, as a lot people do struggle. The sexual and emotional chemistry between Royal and Anika was also amazing!

This novella is set in Jones' Equilibrium series. I hadn't read any of the other books in this series, but was perfectly fine and didn't feel lost. That said, I've discovered Anika and Royal's tension is also built up in some of the other stories and I have to read them now!

Loved this and Royal. Anika got on my nerves being as uptight as she was. Still loved the story though.
