A super quick read. I found this to be only mildly entertaining (the case itself was not as interesting as the characters tried to lead us to believe). I have loved everything else Horowitz wrote for Holmes, but this felt a little unnecessary, perhaps tacked on just to tease the Moriarty book which would come out afterward. Incidentally, I read Moriarty long before I read this short story and felt that book was astounding!

What I Liked:
- Horowitz always stays true to the particularities of Holmes, and I think there is a great amount of integrity in his writing of this character.

- This short story introduces us to Athelney Jones who is integral to the Moriartybook.

What I Didn't:
- I just didn't find the case, or the reveal, to be particularly astonishing. I still wholeheartedly recommend all other books in the Horowitz's Holmes series as they are fantastic, though.

Nice little short, very much in he style of Doyle.

This was like reading a short story from the original batch of Holmes mysteries. What more could you ask for?
