A hard pill to swallow, a harder one to justify.

I started watching the TV show way back when  for a couple episodes. I figured this would be a book I enjoy and stopped the show until I read the book.... Well I have not gotten around it until now ... honestly I don't know if the show is still running or not at this point, I might have to check on that. Doubt it, I haven't seen anything about it.

Anyway the first few chapter were really close to the show which really surprised me but also super enjoyed, after that I can't judge it anymore since I stopped the show.

I had a little bit of a  hard time at some points in the book but for the most part I enjoyed it.

I really liked Shadow and I think he was one of the more relatable and realistic thinking characters I read, his thought process in a lit if situation actually made sense which I liked.

I also liked the look we get at the "gods" all over the US as we travel with Shadow and Mr. Wednesday  and the different gods and their "stories". The different timeline where fun, informative and easy to follow.

The thing for me that I had a hard time was; it was long, like longer than it actually was. I read long books and even some of these didn't feel as long...... Some stuff just felt like a "filler" other things just were long...

And the other one , which I'm sure most will not agree with, was Mr. Wednesday, I really was not a fan of him and I'm not even really sure why , which annoys me even more.

I had he audio and paperback so I  was switching back and forth , the audio was really great and I enjoyed the narration a lot.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and enjoyed Shadow .

I rate it 3.5 ★

I tried getting back into the book after a sixteen year old girl was getting preyed on (successfully), and I just can't.
Especially when the main character tries to be like "hey that's not okay" but the other just goes "I get what I want"

This book was all round just a great time. I just think it was paced so well and I’ve not come across a book that I can read excitedly over a long period of time in a while. The setting was great and I liked how they turned the usual blank-slate, action man lacking in personality into a part of the protagonists development.

I’ve seen some people complain about a lack of coherence in the book but I don’t really see that. I thought the way the book meandered through the main plot and filled the reader’s experience with side quests and extra lore was what gave the book it’s personality.

I don’t think this book was life-changing in terms of it’s message or it’s politics (maybe for someone younger than myself) but I couldn’t recommend it enough for someone just wanting a good, fun read. I think I will be checking out more of Gaiman’s stuff in the future.
