It wasn't actually a 5 star for me, but i added an extra star coz i am older than the target age (I think). I enjoyed it, tho it got a bit boring at bits. I would definitely read the rest of the series.

Some books you just have to give 5 stars to because they leave you feeling so happy, a hug in a book.

As an adult I throughly enjoyed all of Robin Stevens murder most unladylike series so immediately picked this first book of her hew series up. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it  as I am not a big reader of books with  spy or second world War themes. However I quickly fell in love with the 3 main characters.

May, sister to Hazel from the other series we have met before in a couple of those other books. As someone who wasn't a Daisy fan May brings lots of Daisy behaviour but with a more likeable and understanding attitude. I couldn't help but laugh at how incredibly fierce she is whilst being so touched by her vulnerability.

Fionnuala is a fantastic character and being Irish it's lovely to see an Irish characte  especially one dealing with some difficult things. She is sweet but strong, clever and creative and her relationship with May was fun to watch as it grew.

Eric, how could anyone not love Eric. He is so kind, gentle and intelligent and really dealing with huge issues and prejudice yet he does so with such dignity and his kindness to animals just melted my heart.

The story itself is one of my favourite kinds. A murder happens in a house and only someone there could have done it. It wasn't  difficult to work out what was happening but the real joy is not solving the crime ( s) but watching the 3 children attempting to solve it.

This book just warmed my heart and really dealt with some difficult issues that where a reality during WWII which aren't always talked about much. Also I have to say these 3 children had more sense, emotional intelligence and self reflection and understanding than a lot of adult characters I read in books.

This book isn't life changing, nor did I learn anything or get swept away with beautiful lyrical writing but I still gave it five stars because of how much I loved it and May, Fionnuala and Eric and how it left me feeling all warm inside.

I can't wait for the next in this series to be published..
