What a roller coaster of a ride! This book captured my attention immediately and it was difficult to put down. Avery Keene is a Supreme Court law clerk who is surprisingly appointed as legal guardian for the judge she works for when he falls into a coma. She teams up with the judge's estranged son, the judge's lawyer, and her physician resident roommate to investigate and solve the multi-layered mystery. This book involves international intrigue, government corruption, puzzles, chess, and so much more. It is a very intelligent, edge-of-your-seat thriller. I have no idea when Stacey Abrams has time to write novels, but am so glad that she does!!

Thank you to Doubleday and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Stacey Abrams can write! This was a brilliantly plotted legal and medical thriller, dealing with conspiracy, the Supreme Court, genetics, bioweaponry, international and corporate politics...and chess. Her writing reminded me a lot of Grisham's The Pelican Brief, only in this one a lowly law clerk gets to play the hero against all odds. I consumed this book over two days and could not look away when the stakes continued to skyrocket. Abrams truly is genius at this craft, and I will definitely be watching for more like this by her.

I mean, I didn't get everything at first, but the more you read, the more fluid it becomes. I do feel like a supreme court judge now.

The twists and turns and charades were INSANE and for that and so much more, Stacey Abrams is a FUCKING GENIUS

I really enjoyed this book! It was a great and interesting story and I liked the way she rolled the plot out! It was like a thriller with a bit of romance, I loved it! I had only read her memoirs/nonfiction before but I would definitely read another fictional tale from her.

While Justice Sleeps by Stacey Abrams was a read that surprised me and was a really intriguing political and legal thriller that felt like it could have been from a real Presidential term in recent history.

Avery Keene is a law clerk to Justice Howard Wynn, who is often the deciding Jurist on a split Supreme Court. When he falls into a coma, Avery finds that she is the one who the Justice haw decided has his life in her hands, above those of his wife, who he is divorcing, and estranged son, who had been in the Navy, working intelligence.

As her world quickly spirals, can Avery solve the puzzle pieces that leaves a bread crumb trail only she seems to see, save justice and bring down the heart of government in one fell swoop...

I borrowed a copy of this book from Taunton Library and listened to it on cloudLibrary. I read this for prompt 45, chapter headings have dates, for the 52 Book Club Reading Challenge 2024.

Not sure if it’s the writing or the plot-heavy story, but this didn’t connect for me. I’m bummed but nevertheless persist
