Perfect. Utterly perfect. I finished this in hours, I fell in love with these characters - I laughed and cried along with them, Mary Balogh is such an amazing historical romance author - she writes like no other.
Mais uma saga familiar de romance histórico. Confesso que depois dos Bridgerton não pensei simpatizar com outra família como esta, mas bastou ler as primeira páginas e fiquei rendida.
Esta história de amor começa com um sentido de dever apurado de Aiden Bedwyn, dever de comunicar à irmão do seu melhor amigo que ele tombou no campo de batalha e acima de tudo de honrar a promessa de a proteger acima de tudo.
Aidan vê-se envolvido num enredo familiar e com uma mulher que não tem “berço nobre” já que o seu pai foi apenas um mineiro que conseguiu sair-se bem na vida. Eve é uma lutadora, perdeu o pai, perdeu o irmão e vai ter de lutar contra um primo que fica com a sua herança caso Eve não se case. E é aí que Aiden entra, ao saber da triste fortuna de Eve, que se verá sem nada num curto espaço de tempo, propõe-lhe um casamento de conveniência... o que não esperavam era que tal casamento fosse terminar numa bela história de amor com algumas peripécias pelo meio!
Curiosamente este livro remete-me para outro que se passa no mesmo período, o da derrota de Napoleão, mas o outro na perspectiva dos franceses e este na dos ingleses! Se estão a pensar qual é o livro trata-se d’ O Vestido cor de Pêssego de R. A. Stival.

I guess I thought I would never re-read this one and I can see why. I really did like it but the non-communication and some filler is just a little too much over the top. I would say 3 1/2 and almost feel like bringing it down to 3 on the re-read but.... I still read it straight through and liked the ending.

Guess in the mood for HR and picked this up to re-read once again. I really liked it on the 3rd pass and wasn't as annoyed as the 2nd pass with the non-communication. It seems more the way of the staid Lord Adian. I may re-read the series and the ones I skipped when the mood strikes as the re-reads have a different feel. 4 stars this time too.

Wow rereads really have a different feel. I loved this on this reread 4 1/2 as I still thought that if the last minute so a 1/2 star for that. But like above, I think it is Adian's personality that carried to to the end.

I'm not really sure how to rate this one. I really enjoyed the story but OMG it was so slow. Honestly, the two of them refused to say anything to each other until the very very last minute. For most of the story the heroine was super annoying since she wouldn't seem to be as grateful as I think she should have been since this guy came and married her which made him give up his entire life "for his honor". She was pretty frustrating and I almost can't believe that he wanted to deal with her. This book really could have been edited quite a bit and been much better. In fact, I think I'll go back to a lower rating just because of how long it took for the relationship to resolve. I like all the characters and will read the other books, but this really could have been a lot shorter.
