Well, I stayed up a all night to finish the book. If that doesn’t deserve a 5 star rating I don’t know what does. I loved both the main characters and how their relationship evolved. Swooned throughout most of the book.

This was my first Mary Balogh, and I loved it so much that now I'm worried her other works won't match up to it. But even if they don't, that's completely fine because this book felt almost tailor made for me. It felt like she looked down the grocery list of things I like and grabbed a whole basketfull. To name a few, there's a marriage of convenience, a heroine who doesn't take shit from her rude in-laws (I'm looking at you, Wulf. You tried to redeem yourself, but you've got a ways to go before I'm convinced), a hero who isn't conventionally attractive, and adopted children. Truly, what more could I want? This is going on my comfort reads list.
While I enjoyed the characters I felt the end could have happened quicker/ not been quite so drawn out. Not communicating is almost as bad as the overdone “miscommunication” in romance and I feel like it was really hard to read both sides in the standoff of not communicating for the last 1/4 of the book

What a good book! A well done marriage of convenience plot is one of my favorite things, and this one was touching, romantic, and beautifully written. I liked both the hero and heroine, and the secondary characters with whom they were surrounded were interesting as well, especially the hero's family, the Bedwyns. This is the first in a series of books about them and I'm looking forward to reading more.
