I really enjoyed the story but was not happy with the ending. Not a cliffhanger - everything from the main story is resolved although obvs Maggie & Cameron's story has more to go but I prefer less of a downer in my endings I mean
she looses her bff & the guy. No,  I can deal with one -  both is too depressing

Really liked the beginning which reminded me a lot of Warcross by Marie Lu (which I strongly recommend!). Unfortunately the rest of the book didn't quite live up to my expectations. The worldbuilding wasn't strong enough and the relationship between the MC and her boss felt too superficial. All in all, an easy and not unpleasant read if you're looking for a few hours of mindless entertainment.

This is good if you like the sound of the blurb, and Maggie isn't too annoying (as the MC can be in this type of book), but I wish she communicated with others a little better, and Damon is kind of a baby for someone who runs his own company.

DNF at about 70%.

Magic/Tech with a female lead was a big draw for me.

It all fell flat. More than halfway through the book I don't care what happens to these characters.
The descriptions of tech are and the tech jobs are odd and feel off.
The magic system feels generic and doesn't mesh well with the tech parts.

Can't think of anyone I'd recommend this book too :(

I'm putting it in my romance category, but if you only read romance it might not work for you. It's an urban fantasy with romance elements. There's fun in here with the idea of a future San Francisco after the next 'big one' and climate change(it's muggy all the time, please don't make that our actual future!!) and also magic. There are VR cafes and gaming clubs and new drugs and old problems all mixing together in a fun story. I like this combined with [b:Wicked Words: A Techwitch urban fantasy|56077894|Wicked Words A Techwitch urban fantasy|M.J. It's a good choice for fans of [a:J.D. Robb|17065|J.D. Read on my Kobo.
