Great start to what I hope is an amazing trilogy
adventurous slow-paced

The novel had a good idea but it was poorly executed. The characters of the five were quite flat and lacked meaningful depth. In particular,
Jen was a completely 2d character who only existed to be raped and violently tortured at the end. Horrific and graphic as it was, because she had no personality I found myself not caring much. And why did the five not seem surprised about being whisked to another world, but just accepted the new status quo with almost no questions?

If this book had had less violence against women, which seemed to serve no purpose to the plot other than being torture porn, I would have rated it higher.

At times the prose is stilted and awkward, but it also has a certain charm. One can tell that the author wants to weave something epic and exciting. To a degree he succeeds. The plot moves quickly and there are moments of back story to give the characters more depth.

I will definitely read the next book in the trilogy.

This is difficult. If someone asked me how I'd rate this book, I would say "it was OK". On the other hand I liked it, so I ended up giving it three stars.

I don't understand exactly the raving reviews and the high ratings. It's a good book and writing and language are very often highly entertaining. At the same time I miss something. I can't put my finger on it, but there is something preventing me from completely enjoying it.

But at the same time I wouldn't want this odd feeling to keep anyone from reading it. They might share the highly enthusiastic feeling that seems prevalent in the readers of this book.

DID NOT FINISH: 65%

I just did not like the characters and the plot jumped around so I found myself not caring.
