This author is a parent of middle schoolers, or a teacher of middle schoolers, or just plain clairvoyant. I read this with my 11 and 13 year old boys, and we laughed out loud.
Dwight is a boy who doesn’t have the easiest time communicating with his classmates. Origami Yoda is a finger puppet made of paper that is used by Dwight to ease this discomfort. Yoda is also relied upon by those classmates for advice ranging from what to eat at lunch to whom they should date. Buy Yoda and Dwight have drawn the wrath of their school principal who is recommending him for alternate schooling. Now it’s up to Dwight and Yoda’s friends and advice recipients to try to stop that from happening. But Harvey, another classmate, class jerk, and owner of Darth Paper, the rival to Origami Yoda, will do whatever he can to not allow that to happen.
It’s a cute book with an interesting idea that goes off the rails here and there into tangents that really have nothing to do with saving Dwight/Yoda. It might help to read the first book in the series, Origami Yoda.

I do believe I enjoyed this book even more than the first one! Unlike the first one, this time there was a lot more on the line. First, I really want to try out the Star Wars game that the teacher described to the students in place of computer games. Second, the ending was what really made me appreciate this book. Most children's books try and set a good example by sending the message, "Your teachers aren't as bad as you think they are, they're humans too". This book sent the message, "Your teachers are human and can truly be jerks." This is a message that is unfortunately true and surprised me in this book!
I couldn’t wait for this one to come out. I had high hopes and the force did not fail me. Tom Angleberger’s Darth Paper Strikes Back is just as fantastic as Origami Yoda. I loved it! Dwight is suspended from middle school because Origami Yoda told a cheerleader she was doomed. That and because of the awesome moment in the last book when he tried to beat up the bully. Harvey, the jerky kid who disrespectfully called Yoda, paperwad Yoda, creates a Origami Darth Vadar. Tommy and his friends must make another case file to stop the school board from sending Dwight to reform school. The case file is filled with the same kind of predictiments and Yoda’s sage advice. My favorite is when the school wants the students to sell crappy popcorn tins to raise money for the school. Yoda convinces the students to raise money without selling anything. Do you want this stupid popcorn tin or donate to the school? This way all the money went to the school instead of some crappy popcorn company. I’m with them. I would rather give the money and not have some stupid tub of stale popcorn with Hannah Montana on it taking up space in my home. Another favorite moment is when Dwight’s mother tells the school board off. I highly recommend this book to all and hope that Tom decides to keep writing more. Maybe the next one could be about Boba Fett or Greedo? I wonder if George Lucas has read these? I think he would love them!
A student of mine is all about this series, and he talked me into reading the second book. I liked the first one, so I wasn't surprised that I enjoyed the second one too. Different problem, but similar format. Lots of good advice, funny illustrations, and a quick read.
I thought this sequel was far superior to the first book! I thought the theme was much more positive and better suited to higher elementary students. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I think I enjoyed this Origami Yoda book even more than the first and that is saying something! Funny and lovable characters and fantastic Star Wars references make this another highly recommendable book
This book was very frightening and made a lot of tension. Everything ended up all right so I was relieved.
My favourite character was Darth Paper even though he is evil.
