Unfortunately it seems more and more that I've outgrown (or perhaps outread) these books. Sincerely loved them when I was younger, thinking them very clever and well written, and now they're just meh. Don't think I'll finish this series, I'm sad to say.
I read this book for the second time to actually read the Lincoln Rhyme series in order, and I don't exactly know how I feel about it. When I first read it in 2014, it took me 3 days. Though I remembered almost nothing about it for the reread, it took me several months. The first half was just much drier than I remember, and much slower than I'm used to for crime novels. However, I finished the second half of the book in just a few days this time around, and the search picked up greatly. Maybe it was just the timing? Even so, I'd have to say I greatly enjoyed the book and even though I had read the book once there was a great enough twist that it still surprised me the second read through, around 7 years later.

— Sigur. Orice ai.
— E amuzant – tragem chiulul într-o zi de lucru. Doi adulţi în toată firea. Îmi place chestia asta.
— Născut să fii sălbatic, glumi bărbatul.

It took me awhile to finish this book because I couldn't skim it. Lots of information there to absorb. My reading time is mostly at night these days, and I often had to read back a few pages to catch up with the story again.
Even so, the action, plot, and characters were enjoyable and it gave me a lot to think about. The information gathering process of our electronic age can indeed be put to bad use. Makes me think twice about using my credit cards, carrying my cell, and that EZ Pass in my car.

Some parts of this book got a bit tedious. Who needs page after page of titles on a dossier? Although repeating lists of physical evidence gives the reader the "same" experience as Lincoln Rhyme, I found most of those evidence lists quite unnecessary. I also figured out who the killer was the very first time he was introduced.
