Simple, sweet, short story. I remember liking this when I was 12, but feeling the conflict was somewhat unnecessary - and at 22, it really IS drastically unnecessary to an extent. Kady and Jess are best friends but fall out so readily; and I'm uncomfortable with the sexualisation of Kady considering she's 12 (wearing a thong and shrunken clothes and heaps of make up to attract an older boy). Having said that, a lot of plot happens for so few pages, and I do like the friendship that grows between Jess and Karl - I remember as a young teen wishing that friendship had been given more time, and I still feel that now. Cathy Cassidy books make me feel extreme nostalgia, and probably always will.
