This book is what Dune would be if it was actually exciting (don't hate me for saying that).

I'm not going to write a long review for this because it's the second book in the series and if you likd the first one, you'll like this one. I will say that the first book is better. I loved reading about the institute because it was more of a confined setting whereas this book brings us to Darrow trying to navigate the real world - theres a lot more politics in this book which makes sense.

This would have been a 4 star book for me but THE ENDING IS WILD. I was shocked.

I can appreciate that the author doesn't give Darrow too much plot armour. He struggles and doesn't always succeed which is so rare for a main character these days. I don't normally enjoy reading series because they can lose their lustre but I will keep going with this one and I know it'll likely become one of my favorites.

There was so much treachery in this book. Despite not being in a hunger games situation, it still had plenty of action. We finally find out who Ares is! The revolution is in full swing and I’m apprehensive of where it will go from here because that ending was a dozy.

This definitely surpass the Red Rising, there were so many tense moments and pure entertainment scene from both Darrow and Servor. I do like how the author have made character development for Tatutis, Mustang and Darrow. I would recommend continuing reading this series, I spent every day reading it and wanting not to put it down.

My top 3 moment are:

1. Darrow fitting with  cassius, like the reveal of how Darrow knew how to fight. The sovereign making political decision mistake which led to spark for civil war created by Darrow.

2.Darrow showing mustang whom he is, while visiting his mom for the first time again. This whole scene felt like huge stupid part on for him, at the same time how to remind you whom he is as person. I could have sworn that Ragnar would have killed Mustang but instead just show more emotion of humanity.

3. The betrayal scene, thinking everything was perhaps good but keep tense in the air. Really like how munch foreshadowing of Roque will betrayed Darrow, like not keep him close or multiple time you see him only concern for gold

I’m screwed… I already rated the first book in the series 5 stars… After reading Golden Son I think I’m going to need more stars. This book truly captured my heart and broke it in two.

Unlike the first novel in the series (Red Rising) which focused on a Hunger Games inspired battle arena this novel expands into a galactic civil war. If you enjoyed Enders Game but would have liked more violence this is for you. Not to mention the amount of twist and turns you will never see coming is chefs kiss.

Pierce Brown does well to make even the characters who are evil seem compassionate. In return he also makes the characters you believe to be good grotesquely dark and twisted. In this book you’ll never know who is going to stab Darrow in the back or be his saviour.

But… at least you can always put your faith in Darrow & Servo. Darrow is a man born Red & made Gold but Servo… Servo is a man of two colours. If anything bad happens to Servo in this series I will throw a fit.

Golden Son is like watching a car crash in slow motion and I am absolutely here for it. It was tense, it was exciting, it was emotional, it was stressful…. Gah! Looking forward to book three.
