This book is ALMOST enjoyable, if you can manage to overlook the fact that it requires you to believe in a protagonist who doesn't take a lawyer with her to be interviewed by police regarding a murder, despite the fact that:
1. Her sister tells her not to go in without a lawyer
2. Her brother-in-law, who IS a lawyer, says "absolutely do not go in without a lawyer"
3. She has an abusive ex who is a serving policeman, and
4. Was retaliated against by his police colleagues when she tried to report him.

So if you can get past the idea that someone like that would ever, EVER, go "herp-derp; I've got nothing to hide! I can trust the cops! It'll look suspicious if I have a lawyer," then knock yourself out. You may enjoy this book. The on the run bits are definitely engaging.

But then the ending is insulting, magical thinking, a baby will save you and the bad cops will be rooted out and you'll be BFFs with the detective who was MOST slavering to arrest you, absolute, utter bullshit.

This book was okay. It was fast paced and had a great start. But the ending felt forced, and I wish there had been a twist.

My 2nd Ruth Ware as an audiobook because I love the narrators voice. It was a good story, the middle was drawn out and it could have been shortened up. The ending was predictable, but overall it was still enjoyable.
