3/5 stars!

I feel like Ruth Ware books are hit or miss for me but I felt very in the middle with Zero Days. It started off well for me I was completely intrigued. Normally when I read a thriller it’s mostly to do with murders but this was more of an action thriller than crime. I love those sort of films but for some reason books of that genre don’t always capture me.

I felt throughout the book I was waiting for the excitement to begin and watch Jack be a bad ass, which to be fair we did get at times. It was mostly Jack going through the grieving process of her husband and more battling with survival. One of the best parts of the novel was when she was doing an Alias moment pretending to be someone else and just being bad ass. I wanted more of that! I felt those sort of moments really captured my attention but I don’t know I felt like the book didn’t really take off and stayed one noted at moments.

A certain character I knew was bad almost from the jump but I would have loved the moment of betrayal to be a bit more climatic and not so early on. I wish this character had been present throughout the book till the very end and then bang! Betrayal! But no it was just ending up being very anticlimactic since that moment I just lost so much attention with the book.

It was okay! I still enjoyed the read and ride but I honestly felt so many moments of opportunity for this book to just be a bit more exciting and well, less downbeat. I wanted Jack who she was from the beginning and the alias moment and honestly at the end. I did feel attached to Jack and the clock ticking did set me slightly on edge. But I honestly felt like a certain character in this book should have been present and then either be good or a bad guy it was a total loss of opportunity! I wanted more of those exciting moments of different identities, bad girl moments but also the grief and survival all that together this book would have been a 5/5!

Interesting premise. The resolution wasn’t very well-explained. Fell a bit flat.

This book had more grace than I was expecting and prepared for, and just from a personal place. The premise sounds really interesting but the book about the flat. That it really dragged in some places but maybe what the problem is is the premise set the book up for something a little bit different than the grief journey that was actually on the page.

this book likes cops a bit too much for my taste
