I absolutely love Ware's thrillers and she's probably my favourite author when it comes to thrillers. I always look forward to her books and this one did not disappoint.

This book kept me hooked since the beginning which is always a good sign. It kept me invested and I seriously, could not put it down.

I was so intruiged by our main character, Jachinta (or Jack). I feel like she was a very strong female main character. Our poor girl Jack could not catch a break once. Something always happened to her and I just wanted her to be okay.

I did guess who was our bad guy but there was still so much to the story and I really enjoyed the book. Zero Days was filled with tension and action that kept me up late at night because I needed to know what happens next.

This started out interesting with the spy/thief angle but quickly devolved with the banter between her and her husband. I think I’m not the target audience for that. It was perfect timing for her husband to die when he did, so great plot structuring.

The way the characters act is kind of superficial—not sure how to describe it. The grief was a little bit more palpable but all types of lust and most types of being uncomfortable were only uncomfortable for me (get it, bc they were badly written). Like for example, when Jack is talking to Gabe’s brother, Cole, why is she saying she’s having PTSD flashbacks? There should just be flashbacks.

I hate how whenever she talks to her sister, instead of having an exciting and interesting conversation, the main character turns into the idiot of all idiots.

It was a little interesting towards the end because we were coming to a close with who the real culprit was and it was great that it was Cole, although the whole love interest thing was weird and out of place.

I think the plot at the end was more uniform and made sense, but the writing was not that great, the emotions were fake and out of place for the characters at many points. There are also plot carrying conversations that didn’t make any sense, coming to conclusions that never should’ve been even an out of place thought and others being accepted without another glance. Also, the running around to different people didn’t make any sense because sometimes she was just going to a different city with no money to meet someone who wasn’t relevant to the story and it wasn’t made clear, or why would she think of them/go there? Just glossed over those parts really because I was so done with the book.

Made sense in the end, but annoyed me to no end. 2 stars.

I am done with Ruth Ware. I’m always expecting something more and am gravely disappointed.

Jack and Gabe make a great team.
They are penetration specialists, hired by companies to expose weaknesses in their security. Jack breaks in and Gabe hacks their systems.

When a routine job goes sideways, Jack returns home late to find her husband has been brutally murdered.
When it is clear she is suspected of the crime, Jack goes on the run determined to clear her name and find the real killer.

This was a fast paced thriller that while predictable, was a fun, albeit unrealistic ride.
I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, but after Jack goes on the run a lot of the feats she performs were on the unbelievable side, it made the rest of the book slightly less enjoyable for me.
But as a whole this was still an entertaining read.
