I don't know why I love Ruth Ware so much.
She really knows how to belabor a moment. It's maddening. Her protagonists are particularly inarticulate - in Zero Days, our heroine's reaction to just about everything is "Fuck" Or even, "Fuuuuck. FUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK." Yet here I am with the four star review because I just had so much fun.

So I read and finished this book for my goal this year to Read the Alphabet (for both Titles and Authors); this was a "two-fer" for Z title and W author. I am finding that I am not a huge thriller fan, it seems.
This was a straightforward chase suspense-thriller with a self-reliant and scrappy female lead (Jack / Jacintha). Jack and her husband, Gabe, are professional penetration testers to test security systems of companies physically and digitally. Jack does on-the-ground infiltration and Gabe's remote with tech support.
But, it wasn't totally action-packed, because some parts were quite boring/dragged. It also wasn't very surprising or thrilling. I swear, the second that Gabe's best friend Cole was introduced, I was suspicious (he GAVE HER A PHONE and then a RANDOM NUMBER contacted on SIGNAL as her sister AND HER POSITION WAS REPEATEDLY COMPROMISED?). It was disappointing to me that it actually did go back to him!
I also, as a sister myself, was irritated (personally it seems) by Jack not listening to her (very helpful) sister, Helena. Why DIDN'T she get a lawyer? Based on her situation with her ex, policeman Jeff Leadbetter, I have no idea why she trusts the police AT ALL. Helena is EXCELLENT. Why don't you listen to her JACK?!
So much of the book is so completely implausible and far-fetched, and honestly it was annoying to me that she was - surprise! pregnant!!! - pregnant at the end. She's hyper-observant of every detail, but completely misses that? And she's going into sepsis but just carrying on?
I listened to this book, and I am NOT a fan of this narrator. The voice used for male characters caused me to physically grimace repeatedly.
