Ruth Ware is an author that I enjoy but just don’t seem to LOVE. I usually give her books 3-4 stars and this one is no different, although it is different from her usual gothic themed style as this one is more of a fugitive thriller. I liked the set up as the main characters, Jack & Gabe, professionally break into companies physical and cyber locations to find weak links in their security systems. It’s something I haven’t read about before but an interesting topic. What I didn’t love about this book was that the list of suspects is small and therefore extremely predictable, it’s pretty repetitive, and I found the main character, Jack, to be a bit too whiny for my taste. The audio was done well, which is typical of anything read by Imogen Church, so that might’ve been this one’s saving grace on me enjoying it where I did.

Disappointing. I like Ruth Ware a lot but this is not a good book. You know who the culprit is in the first quarter of the book and the why is not interesting or clever. The book is too long and repetitive. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

There were a lot of twists & turns throughout the book that kept me reading wanting to know what happened next.

I thought Jack’s character was so great and showed the strength of loving someone. Her story was one I wanted to keep following.

The ending wasn’t my favorite. I think I wanted it wrapped up completely and it didn’t feel that way to me. A little lackluster in the end. But I still felt like Jack got the ending she deserved.

Overall, good book. Probably my favorite Ruth Ware novel.

Zero Days is a mediocre humdrum detective story.
One- fifth into the story Jack is on the run for murdering her husband Gabe. The couple are a Pen Specialist (security specialist who break into companies to find their weak spots). Gabe is the hacker specialist and Jack is the athlete , agile, and limber one that breaks into the companies.
Jack returns home from a job and finds Gabe dead. The spouse is always first suspect and evidence is leaning against Jack. So she runs and commits to finding the real murderer. Humdrum because it was eye rolling detail and repeats of events. If she was half as good as her description/character was interpreting, she would have been out of the situation and a short story. I enjoy Ware’s writings but this one lacked in suspense, edge of my seat and nail biting material.
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books, Gallery/Scout Press for ARC in exchange for my review.
