I will be thinking about this book for a while. I saw the movie in theaters and remember all the feelings I had then. I feel the movie is very accurate to the book. The whole time I was thinking “I wish I could read this blindly” because I know these plot twists would be so good. I love the unreliable narrators. I love super flawed characters. I love the satire and critique for men/women dynamics, true crime in media, and so much more. There is so much to analyze I wish I was reading this with somebody to talk it out. Amazing book, can’t wait to read more from the author.

I would do the same thing if a man dulled my sparkle!

In all seriousness I thought the plot and character development was very smart and engaging. The only thing better than one unreliable narrator is two! My main critique was pacing; the book was so long I felt like it dragged at points before Nick discovered Amy’s plan. But very happy the cat didn’t die <3

Okay so the cool girl monologue slaps, but the rest of the book is just vaguely uncomfy. Nick is such a misogynist and both diary Amy is annoying and "not-like-other-girls", something real Amy is also feeling, just more extreme. It's just weird to read a book like this in a post me-too era. Like we don't need another book about a psycho bitch tearing a perfect man down with her lies! But it was fun to read and it's not a bad book. So.

“We weren’t ourselves when we fell in love, and when we became ourselves – surprise! – we were poison. We complete each other in the nastiest, ugliest possible way.”

I love mind games, and psychological thrillers seem to have them. I didn't like the first half as much as I thought I would, but when the second half hit, it hit hard. Even though I guessed the big twist, it's what that twist did for the story that made it so captivating. I didn't like the writing style at certain points of this book, it felt a bit too graphic with the cursing and gore (for my taste, that is). It made me uncomfortable, which I guess, is the point. However, overall, this book is chaotically unhinged, disturbingly dark and deceptively brilliant.
