The best definition of a toxic relationship. I love messed up characters that are all unreliable. This was a page turner start to finish despite having some spoilers beforehand. I loathe Nick. He is the worst kind of scum who has gaslighted himself into thinking he’s fine and can do no wrong. Amy… oh Amy. I love her! She’s whack a doodle, the whole book was a ride.

Gone Girl is the only movie I’ve willingly rewatched (& 5 times at that, thank you very much) so I knew I would have to read the book one day. Even though I found that the movie managed to stay remarkably close, the novel still had my jaw on the floor. I feel that Amy’s POV is so necessary for the narrative & her mindset is so sickening, yet satisfying. It completed the story for me. I highly recommend the novel over the movie (of course).

I really didn't enjoy my reading experience with this book.

I bought it at a thrift store because I was almost ashamed that Gone Girl was still on my TBR all these years later. I had read Sharp Objects and devoured it, a solid 4 star read.

However, I thought Gone Girl could benefit from better pacing. Pacing was my biggest issue with the book, causing me to be bored for the first half of the story and last 100 pages or so; Reading this book turned out to feel like a chore.

I am also not a fan of the ending, but to each their own. I recognize that a lot of my qualms with this novel could be matter of opinion so I settled with a 3 star rating. Would probably recommend to readers who like slow burn thrillers, just not for me.

Might have been 5★ if I hadn't seen the movie first.
