This is the most charming and surprising book. Talk about a character arc! Taking the prickly and cold Naomi from The Roommate, and letting her explore life, love, and religion is not what I expected. The story isn’t terribly realistic, and there’s not enough spice in this book at all, but it’s still a lovely and interesting read.

So freaking good. The gender dynamics were swapped. Bad as FMC and sensitive/needs rescued MMC. It's so hard to do a FMC bad ass because readers internalized misogyny means they are harder on her and her personality than MMC. But I loved everything about Naomi. And I loved the sweet/sexy relationship. I loved the Jewish aspects that were added in. The hot rabbi is a new one for me. I loved the philosophy of it all and the internal development each went through.
After inhaling the Roommate in basically one sitting, I was (pleasantly) surprised by how different this book was from the first. Where the Roommate smolders on every page with suppressed desire, this book has a banked heat. This couple, too, struggles with the impossibilities of being together, but instead of exploring sexuality, this book focuses on intimacy in all its forms.
I was, of course, surprised. I thought with Naomi as the heroine this book might be even smuttier than the first. When we were introduced to Naomi in the first book, she radiated sex appeal while also being fairly terrifying. This hasn’t changed, but that’s also what makes her a great heroine. You get to see both her barbs and her soft spots, and she’s absolutely electric on the page. Her relationship with Clara was one of my favorite parts of the book; they’re the perfect odd couple of friends/CEOs.
This book yearns more than it smolders, mostly thanks to Ethan, the hero, resident soft boy and rabbi. He’s sweet and thoughtful, providing the perfect foil to Naomi’s “stick or dynamite” approach to life. While significantly less steamy, it’s still sexy but also is willing to take a step back and say ‘maybe later.’
An intimate, thoughtful read with memorable characters. I can’t wait to see what Rosie Danan has for us next!

The sequel to the Roommate about Naomi, a former sex worker, and Ethan, a rabbi. Stay with me. Naomi ends up teaching a course at the synagogue on modern intimacy to try and bring in new members. It’s a romance about Naomi & Ethan obviously BUT the seminar series she taught was so interesting and I wish I had attended this series when I was 20 years old.
Rosie Danan writes amazing and perfect and wonderful and sexy romances. That's all there is to it. If you read [b:The Roommate|45023611|The Roommate (The Roommate, #1)|Rosie Danan|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1583339454l/45023611._SX50_.jpg|69699115] you know this already. Don't let even a speck of doubt occupy your mind: this sequel holds up. It not just holds up, it stands on its own. Naomi, a self-reliant, boss b*tch former porn star, was introduced in the last book. Now it's her time to shine. In this case, it's when she meets Ethan, Los Angeles's (and maybe the world's) sexiest rabbi and they decide to bring modern intimacy to his synagogue. Super fun stuff! Sparks fly! Read and be amazed!
