I'm not a devoted GoT fan, but this cookbook looked badass. Thanks to Susan for showing it to me! Favorite sounding meals include: (The Wall): Medieval Apple Cakes, Crusty White Bread, Medieval Mulled Wine and Southron Mulled Wine; (The North): Breakfast at Winterfell, Traditional Buttered Beets and Modern Beet Pancakes; (The South): Black Bread, Sister's Stew, 16th-Century Stewed Rabbit, Medieval Arya Tart, Medieval Blueberry Tarts, and Modern Honey Biscuits; (King's Landing): Almond Crusted Trout, Roman Peaches in Honey-Cumin Sauce, Elizabethan Lemon Cakes, and Ice Milk with Honey; (Dorne): Breakfast in Dorne and Duck with Lemons; (Across the Narrow Sea): [Honey-Spiced Locusts was a bit much..!!!..] Roman-style Beet Soup and Tyroshi Honeyfingers. I love that the cooks offer some guidance on hosting a themed dinner, explaining why the details on the table are important for your guests and their experience. There are "Dinner Menu" suggestions in the back of the book themed to the region you wish to put on. These cookbook writers can also be found at http://www.innatthecrossroads.com/.

It seems as all the gods have been smiling in terms of the timing of my post about this book. I was a bit disappointed when I saw that someone else had requested it from the library so I couldn't renew it but, given that I have been reading A Feast for Crows, indulging in watching Season 3 of Game of Thrones this week and Season 4 starts on Monday, the timing really couldn't be better.

This book is actually by two bloggers who started blogging about the food from George R R Martin's A Song of Fire and Ice series over at In at the Crossroads and ended up with a book deal. Not only did they get a book deal, it is the officially sanctioned companion cookbook for the series and as such it includes a foreword from George R R Martin, In it he confesses to not being able to cook much at all, which given how much food is mentioned in the books might be a little surprising.

Whilst this is undoubtedly a book for the fans of the series, whether it be the books or the TV series, there are definitely aspects of the book that might be of interest to other people who like to read about historical food.

I love making the modern beef and bacon pie from this, and my husband loves the roast chicken.

Thanks to this book, I went back to Westeros, it was so great!! I loved it!!

Now, I'm super hungry, and I really want to make some of these delicious recipes!

Martin's introduction is great - just like all of his introductions in different books, be they about Westeros or not! - and the recipes are adapted to fit the seven different realms; there are traditional medieval dishes, and their modern version!

A feast for the eyes; now, let's taste it!

Poached pears were a smash hit

Me gusto mucho!

Incredibly nerdy, and insanely cool.
