I am so glad that I picked this up. It was a nice change up from other books that I've read recently. Dear Girls is not a book for the easily offended. It is chock full of LANGUAGE and brash, lewd talk. In the book, comedian Ali Wong writes letter to her two daughters for when they grow up to tell them about life, including her sex life, drunken mishaps and more. Funny stuff, but not really what you would write to your kids...but that makes it funnier. I loved that there were definite feminist undertones and that Wong was so open and honest.

I had photographed a passage from the book that I liked but of course I deleted it while cleaning up my camera roll. Doh! Anyhow, to paraphrase, she basically said that in order to become a better, well-rounded person, you should get out in the world...meet all sorts of people, eat all sorts of food, try a wide variety of things. This will help you be more open-minded and understanding of others, making you a better person. Sound advice and part of my parenting philosophy too...so this struck a chord with me. :)

Also, this just won the GoodReads Choice Award in the Humor category. so...yay!

This book was everything I wanted and expected from it. Funny and irreverent, she covers all things comedy, parenthood, family and identity. It's not going to win the Pulitzer, but it sure will keep me entertained during a global pandemic. Really recommend the audiobook for this one (she does it herself and her delivery really adds to it).

This was funny but a lot of the graphic details made me cringe (maybe she was going for that to embarass her daughters...who really knows)! I think if it were a live show it would be ok but hearing it in audiobook form while I was eating or driving just didn't have the same effect!

I did love the tiny life tip chapters especially about the Asian restraunts. I also enjoyed hearing about Ali's time in Vietnam. Overall it was fun but not entirely my cup of tea!

I was listening to the audiobook borrowed from the library on a road trip. It was fine and entertaining enough to keep me occupied while driving but when I got home I had no desire to finish listening and it autoreturned.

Ali is hilarious and relatable and this is a solid book yadda yadda yadda. But the CLINCHER, the thing that brings it home, is the epilogue written by her husband, Justin. It is incredibly sweet and thoughtful. He offers his own take on some of the events that Ali describes in the preceding chapters. It's kind of like How I Met Your Mother but only better and more sincere. By the last word, I was wiping tears from my eyes.
