Reminiscent of some of the TV shows that are popular right now. (At least in as much as I've seen of them. I don't watch much TV.)

It was a lot of fun. It reminded me a little of the urban fantasy novels that were popular several years ago but with a more modern feel.

Such a quick read. Pacing is perfect. Character development is very well-done. Loved discovering the characters' powers along with them. Loved the representation. Such a perfect Fall read. I cant believe it took me this long to pick this one up!

And another of those books that's been rotting on my shelves for quite some time already. I bought this book because I liked the vibe of the cover and the blurb on the back. I used to be scared of everything, but I've discovered that my tolerance for especially supernatural horror/thriller is way better than I thought it was. So, when one of the reading prompts for this month asked for a thriller/horror I knew that I was finally gonna read this story.

And I ended up really enjoying this book, this town, the atmosphere and the characters. The atmosphere of this entire book really worked for me. We had a small town, where everyone knew everyone and you could be a hero one day and a paria the next. I loved all the gossiping, the plotting, the going behind each other's back and all the secrets people had for each other, even those within their own family.

On top of that there was a really nice mystery. And although there were characters who knew everything about it, the book gave us the chance to discover most of it through Violet, who had no clue what was going on. I loved how she was in a way careful, but also very curious, always wanting to learn and know more. And when all the pieces of the puzzle clicked at the very end I loved it even more. The build up, all the individual elements and eventually the finale, it all really worked for me.

Just like I really enjoyed these characters. We had three point of view characters and they were all so incredibly different. They had a different upbringing, were in different situations and therefore looked at the same situations quite differently. And although we were in their heads, they never threw all their cards and knowledge on the table, without it feeling unnatural or forced that they witheld information from us. I especially enjoyed Harper's storyline and I can't wait to see where it will eventually go, as I think her story has only just started.

I'm going to borrow what my lovely friend, Dylan, said, but this kinda reads like a CW show. But I mean that in the best way possible. It is absolutely addicting and like you want to keep reading. I can't wait to see what sorts of things happen in book two.

"She was different now, broken and remade. There would always be sorrow buried within her. But that was okay— that was part of who she was."
