I ended up pacing it just so it would come to an end and didn’t have to spend anymore time with this bloke. I didn’t find it funny whatsoever - far too depressing and frustrating. I felt incredibly sorry for his friends, and (against my better judgement) sorry for Gordon. Credit to Orwells writing though!! I enjoyed the view of 1930s London.

A bunch of man's ranting about how shitty everything around is. Definitely not something that I would enjoy, so I stopped reading.

Equal parts compelling, enervating, and frustrating—as Orwell probably intended.
