4.5 stars. Really got better as it went on. Everything that’s been animated so far was just pretty good, but the last seventy chapters or so is when it actually got into peak fiction territory. Great series. Definitely doesn’t deserve much of the hate it gets, even if many hype it up a bit too much.

This is actually one of the very very rare few manga series where the ending is actually really fucking good and satisfying and actually feels like the big bad has been defeated and it was worth all the effort it took and wasn’t over in like 5 mins and you feel like how was this worth all that time. ugh, so good!!

I can understand why people say this is mid. The story is what holds it up, the artwork not so much. Actually, if there is one glaring disadvantage to this series it's that its artwork is sub-par. The anime far surpasses the manga on this front. The story of Tanjiro and his quest to regain his sister Nezuko's humanity after she was turned into a demon is interesting, to say the least. For me, it was personally the cast of characters that made this series what it is. Tanjiro is projected to have a kind heart and an optimistic personality but it is his ability to learn and adapt to the ever-increasing setbacks to his quest that make him stand out. At times the author makes him so sweet and kind that it's jarring and highly unrealistic (even in a world with flesh-eating demons and superhuman swordsmanship that defy the laws of physiology and anatomy). But hey, maybe I'm just cynical and prone to see the glass half empty more often than not. But this is just my take.

If you love the Demon Slayer anime or manga in general, then this collection is a must. While the anime is going to take another couple of years to finish, the manga is done-and-dusted. It's a thrilling read, with non-stop action, humor, and drama. My only complaints are some meandering backstories about demons, but this is a criticism of the genre more than Demon Slayer itself.
Reading manga can be a lot of work, as Western readers have the wait for the issues to be translated and released as volumes (usually months after the Shonen Jump issues come out)... so I haven't read any manga since I bought the final volume of Fullmetal Alchemist in 2010. Even then you have to get used to reading from right to left and adjust to the way stories are told in Japan. If this isn't your thing, I get it. But if you are curious about any manga, try out Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist, or this.

This series is truly remarkable. Children really are the ones who suffer the consequences of adult greed, ignorance, mischief etc.
