I adore Demon Slayer. If anyone came up to me sand said it was trash, I might physically fight them.
Wowzers does it ever have some issues.
I'm not talking about the problematic shit. (There is a bit. It has not affected my rating.)
I am talking very specifically about the author not believing that the audience can think for themselves.
Demon Slayer has one of the worst cases of telling-not-showing that I've ever seen in my life. As in fully spelling out exactly what is going on to the reader in a way that detracts from the imagery. This is most obvious in the Mugen Train arc, but occurs at points throughout the series. The audience does NOT need things spelled out for them all the time. If I hadn't watched the Mugen Train movie before reading the manga, I may well have dropped the whole manga right there specifically because of the author's lack of trust in the audience to figure things out for ourselves. Later on in the manga, the author relies pretty heavily on telling the rest of the story in text at the end of each chapter. Honestly, as good as the art is, I feel like this may have done better as a light novel.
Now.
All that said.
I still think the overall story arc is an excellent example of its type, and I encourage anyone who loves a heroic shonen story to at least try reading it. It has comforted me in difficult times, and it's made me laugh and cry and feel hopeful. The ending was exactly what I expected, and also exactly what I wanted. I adore it. I hope that the show continues to do the story justice.

You can tell this is Gotouge’s first series, however, so much thought, effort, and research went into this series you can tell they poured their heart and soul into it. I’m incredibly happy that it’s getting the attention it deserves and that the anime and movie helped the series gain more popularity. I’m so thankful to Goutoge for creating such a beautiful series and being so so creative with the character designs. I love how much their art style improved throughout the series, it really warms my heart to see Gotouge improve so fast, I hope they’re proud of themselves. To whoever says the anime carries this series I would very much like to tell them to fuck off LMAO each of these characters have so much life and all of the angst and the progression of the story are amazing, it’s the writing that got the series to where it is today, even if the anime helped it gain more traction.
Although I very much enjoyed the ending and was happy about it, it did throw me off a bit. I do understand where people come from when they say they didn’t like it at all. I don’t blame Gotouge for it at all though, I blame Shonen jump for rushing them. They may also have been dealing with health issues which could also be why the ending was rushed? Either way, the ending made me feel really happy and it felt like a very much needed breath of fresh air after being subjected to 8 volumes of angst.
I’ve never cried so much over fictional characters and I can’t wait to drain my bank account to buy the box set.
This series will forever hold a warm place in my heart.
