Curse of the Sands by Martin Ferguson is the first book that I have read by this author and I absolutely loved it! The author hooks me in right from the beginning! While this book is book two in a series, I feel, very strongly, that you can read it as a standalone. The author does reference moments from the first book in the story, but it is not to the point of where you feel like you missed something along the way.
As you read along, you're mostly following Adam. The author does split off to follow other characters, but Adam is the focus. I think that Adam has potential but he's still growing as a person. As a character developed by the author, he's fantastic. He's impulsive and puts the team at risk almost right from the beginning. Of course, he ends up in hot water with both them AND the American government. Behind bars is no place anyone really wants to be. Plus, it's always good to have friends who have connections to save your bacon.
The main focus of the story quickly shifts to Egpyt with the sighting of a mysterious pyramid that shows up out a series of devastating sandstorms. There is such an air of mystery, danger, and even some supernatural elements. I couldn't get enough. This is one of those books that is hard to put down. It's packed full of action, intrigue, and so much more. I absolutely loved it. Needless to say that this author has garnered themselves a new fan! I'm eager to read more of these books in the future because this a fantastic story and very well done!
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. The storyline is well written and keeps the reader engaged from start to finish. The author weaves an exciting and thrilling story that keeps you hooked and begging for more. Highly recommended for those who love a good action adventure with treasure hunting and some supernatural elements.
