Had a wildly good time with this one, first time reading a Superman comic and it was really fun! Loved the take on soviet Superman, Stalin and Batman and everything! The end had me shook, sat there going :00 for a full minute. Bit iffy about the way the US was portrayed as the best thing to happen to the world at the end but Ill chalk it up to the fantasy aspect lmao. Absolutely would reread tho :)
I have such a love-hate relationship with Mark Millar: stylistic with energy, but always problematic. Red Son tackles an interesting idea, but isn't enjoyable in its execution. We see what it'd be like if Superman didn't land in America, but it's only fun if you can overlook the deprecation of the female characters and Millar's tendency to replace real plot with action. Maybe I'd like this more when I was younger, but now it just feels dated, and it isn't even that old.
This comic book felt very silly and superficial. It moved through large events quickly and with little reflection.
I’ve been wanting to read this alternate version of Superman for many years now and I’m glad I finally did it. I thought it was great that Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern were all a part of the story as well, and that their stories were also slightly altered to fit into the timeline.
Really though, the ending was what did it for me! Really found that a nice pleasing end to it all!

S’alright.
First comic into my comic adventures.
Really gave “better dead than red” a run for its money. Sry John Birchers

The book was a bit of a slog to read in some portions. I didn’t like the marriage part between Lex and Lois (this isn’t even the first time this has been a thing) but it just feels weird because Lois just stays with him and hes just the worst person ever. He literally tries to divorce her because he wants to obsess about Superman alone. lol Also the Wonder Woman romance was so sad because she never really got love but also a lot of this book in some ways did show a little of Mark Millarisms and by that I mean: weird woman hating behavior from men, and aggressive behavior for no reason— but other than that:
What I loved:
It was a tame book for mark millar
Lex Luthor a obsesión was great and the US Superman was an interesting concept. Loved the logo for Superman and for Bizarro Superman
I loved the perspective of socialism vs capitalism in a Russians eyes— no less Supermans.
Acknowledging Superman’s attention span to save people and how he just wants to do good.
This still shows an evil side of Superman (I mean come on the guy works with brainiac and we are supposed to believe this is still our same Superman lol)
It’s like a morally grey character who thinks they’re 100% on the right side because they have the right intent but the execution isn’t perfect.
I do like that he resisted invading AM in the story because he wanted to win the argument with words and not strength too. The art was very similar to a Max Flesicher cartoon as well and the inks were phenomenal next to the montoned dark pallets

A very fun thought experiment into what makes the Man of Steel, a moral hero, even when stripped of the American idealism he has cone to be known for. The novel contains fun iterations of well known characters and an ethical dilema that runs so deep in the minds of philosphers and comic book writers alike: what are the limits of human freedom? While the comic gives an answer (which I think is a real detriment to the novel as a whole) it is still the best Superman comic to read and the ending is a fun and unexpected close to a beautiful graphic work. For any one struggling to find a Superman comic to connect with this is my reccomendation.

If you're going to try to reinvent a character under different circumstances, this has to be a gold standard. It retains everything that makes Superman Superman, while transposing him into Stalin's Russia. It's the perfect synthesis of what you know and new ideas. A top tier Superman Tale.
