I can’t say anything about this series I haven’t already said in previous reviews. Absolute perfection.

I liked this book, but compared to the others in the series it didn't quite land as well for me. Possibly because the Moors were never my favourite setting, possibly because Jack and Jill weren't my favourite protagonists, and maybe just a little bit because the supporting characters didn't land as well for me here.

This time around, it feels like the supporting characters were a lot more one-note. Cora wants her door and to find a way back to her own world. Christopher fell in love with a skeleton girl and his heart will always be in Mariposa. Suni is off-kilter compared to the world around her, while also having the capability to make a surprising amount of sense. These are their only character traits throughout the story.

Jack and Kade's dynamic is really what saved this book for me. Their silent, and not so silent interactions are really good and speak to the depths of time they've been friends. Their friendship that was first established in Every Heart a Doorway is expanded on and becomes something that feels real and true.

I should also say, the scene setting is good too. The Moors acquires an extra layer of Lovecraftian horror with the introduction of the Drowned God and their acolytes and high priest. While that sort of aesthetic isn't exactly my thing, I can definitely see the appeal.

Didn’t really hit like the others have, I don’t really love these adventures where the children go through others doors, they feel a bit predictable.

I didn’t feel much for this and don’t have much to say, middle of the road but not a bad time!

I love this series.
The characters and worlds are vivid and so imaginative.
I cannot wait to read the next one in the series.
