“If you want to burn down hell, you must learn to play the devil’s game.”

I thought this one was just okay. It dragged in certain areas. I really liked Sara though, she actually had a personality and was strong and independent, unlike Wendy from the first book. I loved the way the story ended. It came back full circle.

- Lion King retelling
- Set in early 1900s
- Dark, royal romance
- Forbidden/enemies to lovers

This was... Meh. Way darker than the first book to the series, Hooked. Obviously the spicy scenes are good, but the rest of it was kinda boring. Please read trigger warnings before picking up this book and honestly any book in this series.

Another great and smutty book in the Never After Series. It never fails to make me smile when the villain gets their happy ending. Finding out the hero was not so heroic after all makes you love the villain that much more. This fractured fairy tale retelling of Lion King is amazing. The scarred prince and the mad king facing off throughout the book just further proves there are two sides to every story.
A few of my favorites quotes from the book...
"His tone is deep. As if it was made in hell, then woven through silk. A gentle caress that singes your senses."
"That's the difference between me and other people. They run away from the bad things, and I become them."
"But our strength is impatience. In planning. That is what topples empires. Together we rule, divided we fall."
"Death inevitably changes you. "
"I'll be damned if this woman wasn't molded in the heavens and plucked from the sky just for me. "

It wasn’t based on a specific fairytale like the last one, of if it was I couldn’t place it. The dynamic between Sara and Tristan was red hot, ate it up. All the other characters felt like they needed more character development. Like the bad guys were evil for the sake of being evil.

Dark Romance, Enemies to Lovers, Dom/Sub dynamic, 3 1/2 🔥

I could not put this book down. The dark erotica mixed with romance, adventure, and suspense. I would recommend this book series to anyone!

As much as I love reading Emily McIntire's books, this one is so far not my favourite. I love the way that McIntire reveals more backstory about her characters as the story continues, and there was a dark mystery to this one with lots of plot twists. However, the main characters were kind if unbearable at times. Their whole personalities just felt like completely two dimensional with their only internal monologue being about murder and sex. I did love the references to the Lion King though, that was very well done and for the most part I understood them.
