As much as I love reading Emily McIntire's books, this one is so far not my favourite. I love the way that McIntire reveals more backstory about her characters as the story continues, and there was a dark mystery to this one with lots of plot twists. However, the main characters were kind if unbearable at times. Their whole personalities just felt like completely two dimensional with their only internal monologue being about murder and sex. I did love the references to the Lion King though, that was very well done and for the most part I understood them.

Content Warnings: Sexual content, violence, gun violence, blood, torture, death, confinement, sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexism, classism, war themes, and suicide.
Mention of: death of parent[s], grief, pregnancy, death of a child, child abuse, and child neglect.

I went into this not realizing that this book wouldn't be connected to Hooked so realizing it's set in the early 1900s really through me for a loop at first. Since I'm so used to reading fantasy and historical romance with royalty...my brain kept trying to thing this was much earlier in time than it was so when they'd mention guns/cameras/etc it took me a minute to remember when it was set.

There is just something about a man, who had a rough childhood, that believes he's this hard carefree person when in reality he does so many things that shows he cares...thats just *chefs kiss*

We also love a leading lady who takes no bullshit and is willing to do whatever it takes to avenge a wrong.

A fun read though doesn't feel like a book I'll reread over and over.

I swear, There is crack in here !
It's best to go in blind but if you have any triggers check them. Even not reading back and jumping in this beauty would be best . So I won't give a summary . While this is second in series it can be read as a standalone .
What I will share is ..
I loved this book ! The plot amazing , the smut perfection. Definitely a wild ride. I loved this . The angst . The villain and the main female character's chemistry is swoon worthy . Definitely recommend .

Better than hooked when it comes to the romance. He is DEVOTED to her. I eat it up. Sex is worse though. Plot is solid but the setting was odd. Why is she wearing a corset in the 1920’s?
