This is like the theoretical workbook behind The Matrix but without the digital stuff: Do as prescribed and you have taken the red pill - for your mind.
I'm 100% biased. I ripped through this book right after attending one of S N Goenka's Silent 10-Day courses. This is a resource to come back to when I lose track of my daily two sittings. To the uninitiated curious readers, the contents may make less sense to you having not been through the introductory course.
This is an honest book written in simple language explaining vipassana meditation techniques and key teachings of the Buddha. It is a good companion to have which can be read prior to attending a course and referring to the concepts at a later date. Though it does not discuss any meditation techniques for which the course has to be attended, it does cover background, concepts and benefits. It has a good Q&A with SN Goenka and simple stories to make the point.

Definitely supports the understanding of the technique, but if you’re interested, go attend the 10-day course where you can fully experience this amazing technique.
I love this book. It was a gift from a Nepali friend and I cannot be more grateful!
Initially I thought this book was just about the Vipassana Meditation, but it is not, it contains the core principles of Buddhism and a lot of great stories. The writing style is simple, clear and concise enough to be understood by general readers and meditator beginners like me.

Some good general ideas, but kind of repetitive. I also found myself annoyed that the author kept insisting you MUST take a 10-day course in order to "properly" learn the technique - seems like a self-promo. I also don't agree with the Buddhist idea of total abstinence from all substances, but that's just me.
