Written in stream of consciousness with shifting points of view. I felt like each character took a turn sitting down and telling their story while chain smoking and drinking. There are no reliable narrators, the story is told like a small town legend. Casually devastating at times.

I would say this is a challenging read, especially for someone not used to the writing style, but also because of the subject matter. All the trigger warnings, really.

It will stay with me for a while.

I hated every second of this book. Well written, but incredibly, incredibly dark.

This was very very heavy. Highly recommend reading the trigger warnings beforehand. And don't read this book if you are not in a great state of mind, it is filled to the brim with negativity, despair, sadness, horror.
I don't really have much else to say - not because it was nothing, but because I am still trying to understand how I feel. I have no idea what to say, no idea what to think. It's just heavy and sad.

Blimey, what a book, page long sentences, and really graphic, depraved, and intense writing. It was read as a book club choice, and had it not been, it would have been my first ever did not finish! Too dark and nasty for me. If you do decide to read it, the trigger points are many, so please see what they are before reading. However, the writing was just like a hurricane, never ending and intense. I can see why others rate this book but not for me. Sorry

One of the best things I got from my time in Mexico was a recommendation to read Hurricane Season. Wow. What can I even say about this? It reads like water, it just carried you through this world of mystery, suspicion, pain and colour in such an easy way. It's a masterclass in storytelling, with such sophisticated characters and worldbuilding that I have just been ranting and raving to everyone who'll listen. Incredible stuff. I can't wait to see what Ms Melchor will do next.
