I read Dicker's The Enigma of Room 622 and loved it. The writing was great and at that moment I became a Dicker fanboy, resolving to read everything he had written.
That was my first problem.
I honestly don't think my resolve to read everything a writer has written has ever gone well. Maybe Maeve Binchy.
I started with this book, Dicker's most famous, the one they made into a movie.
Here's the problem: the story is a love affair between a 15 year old girl and a 34 year old man. And I could never get over it. No matter what happened, how well it was written, it was never going to be okay for me.
This took me a long time to read. The first half, over 300 pages, was the "love" story. I read it cause it's Dicker, but I didn't want to.
The second half is better.
I note this book has a different translator than Enigma. I didn't like the translation as much. The writing is still strong, keeping this from a one star review, but just.
