I have been aware of the Hunger Games for a long time, and finally, I got the audiobook from my local library. And wow, this series opener packs a punch.
It paints a rather harrowing picture of the dystopian world we are introduced to that is different and yet so similar to what we currently live on our planet earth.

The choices and moral dilemmas that come out of it are at times gut wrenching and heart breaking.

I put this book immediately up to an all time favourite.

The rendition of the narration by Tatiana Maslany is faultless & has been very much enjoyed.

The second book is way better. This one is still good though.

I'm glad I finally got around to reading the Hunger Games, though I suspect I got less out of it now than I would have when I was younger - it seems like the kind of book which would have absolutely consumed my life at 13 years old. That being said, it was a great book; I appreciated it for being a quick read, with enough depth to keep me interested but not so much complexity as to get in the way of the entertainment and escapism that I was there for. Katniss is an excellent protagonist, with enough character flaws to make her interesting, and she's an easy character to root for throughout. The side characters are also notable for all having fairly well-defined personalities which contribute to the strength of the story.
