“I began to understand that we were born in order to see and listen to the world. And that's all this world wants of us. It doesn't matter that I was never a teacher or a member of the workforce, my life had meaning.“

I would probably go for a 4.5 if it weren’t for the fact that the book could do with less explanations of how bean paste is made.

I feel the read would go smoother and be more interesting. Regardless, a 4 rating seems adequate. I got attached to Tokue for a second before getting to the ending.

It’s not an extraordinary read that will blow your mind, however it is sentimental enough for me to consider it heartfelt. The ending was a bit abrupt but after careful consideration I feel as though it stopped at the perfect moment.

My heart goes on to those who suffered of Hansen’s disease.

Unfortunately the pacing and plot could not retain me after having started reading 2 years ago, so I might need to restart reading this when I feel like discovering it again.

wow, absolutely stunning.

This book is so heartfelt and comforting, a lovely story about letting go of your prejudices and listening to the world around you. Wonderfully written and relatable. The ending was bittersweet, but it worked so well. Can't wait to watch the movie now🫶
