one of my favorite movies but I really put off reading the book because I knew it would be difficult emotionally but it was so worth it. such a beautiful, yet heartbreaking story
the fastest i have ever read a book i think but it was such a good hard hitting book that highlighted the struggles of physical and mental illness in a cruel world; an easy read but a great one

I have read Sweet bean paste by Durian Sukegawa. I listened to the audiobook. Read this for my 2025 Goal of reading new(ish) genres. This is an adult contemporary book with literary writing.
The start of this one was amazing. Exactly what I wanted and needed. A mondane book about making sweet bean paste. Love it. I especially loved the characters in this one and the character dynamics between all of them. The ending part went a bit in the surrealist zone, so that was not my favorite part. This book did make me enthousiastic for more of these kind of books.

An interesting and informative look into a part of Japanese culture. I enjoy many books on the subject, and was quite taken by the unfolding of this story and its main subject matter. Could not put it down and finished in two days.

Such a beautiful little story. I love storys built on simple and easily digestible plot setups, and this one is especially great because of the amazing character work we get, and we'll as a wonderful example and description of a large list of human emotions. There's also a wonderful commentary on a lot of subjects that I honestly didn't expect, yet loved. This story just simply felt warm, but also a little painful, like a hot drink in a mug slowly getting too hot then burning you. I truly loved it
