I have finished reading this book some minutes back. Then I've taken some time to take deep breathe because I've been crying very very much while reading the book.

Oh my goodness! What have I just read?
This is one of the best books I have read so far this year. Actually it's one of the most incredibly amazing and heartfelt books that I have ever read. It is so very much beautiful. I just can't believe that I read this book.
I loved the plot, the character development, the writing, the expressions, the arrangement of words, the way the story ends, the perspective towards life, the love, passion, empathy, and, and literally every single thing about the book. And I absolutely loved the author's note at the end of the book.

I loved Tokue, Sentaro. I loved Wakana too.

Sentaro has criminal record, is suffering in life and he can't find his way to life. He works in a confectionery and makes Doriyaki, a type of pancake filled with sweet bean paste. Tokeu, an orderly woman comes into his life who has disfigured hands and a very troubled past. She makes the best sweet bean paste Sentaro has ever tasted and Sentaro learns that she has been making sweet bean paste for fifty years now and can't figure out how she has been doing it for so many years.Tokeu teaches Sentaro making sweet bean paste and they both grow a good friendship. Their friendship flourishes gradually but then something happened. Tokeu's troubled past has been revealed and brings out devastating consequences.

"Sweet Bean Paste" is an incredible novel that talks about people's pains and troubles, makes you see the world with a new perspective. It's a book that talks about the pains and struggles of an amazing woman Tokeu, such pain that we can't even think of. It shows the power of friendship. This book is everything. It's brilliant, absolutely and completely brilliant. It's wondeful. I am so glad that I've got to read this book.

I have got to read this book because of Christy Anne Jones, my favourite booktuber. So a big 'thank you' goes to her.

really heartwarming story about food, love, and found family

This was a heartfelt and tender story, quite sentimental in some ways. I loved the friendship that developed between Sentaro, Tokue and Wakana. The descriptions were beautifully written but I felt that the dialogue felt flat and stilted at times. This could maybe be due to translation though.

Overall though I really liked this gentle tale of friendship and life.

“We were born to see and listen to the world.”
Finished Sweet Bean Paste and my heart feels so full and heavy at the same time.
It’s such a quiet, emotional story about unlikely friendship, pain, and finding meaning in small things. Tokue’s past broke me, and her way of seeing the world—so gentle, so patient—stayed with me long after.
Soft, sad, but beautiful. I didn’t expect it to hit me like this. 🥺🌸
