Dang, this was quite the powerful story in a tiny book. "Sweet Bean Paste" is a tale about second chances, intergenerational friendships and a dive into a lesser known part of Japanese history. As someone who reads a fair amount of Japanese fiction, I was impressed by the translation work and the smooth clip the story ran at. 

Reader, be advised: While the story does have hopeful notes, it still a story about those experiencing sadness. Thankfully, it wasn't as tragic as it could have been, but I think it's important to raise that flag for potential readers. 

If you're looking for a short slice of life story that will make you think about life and our role within it, you've come to the right place.
