A solid review of parenting strategies that build resilient kids and healthy family dynamics. I’ve loved a lot of this author’s lectures on her website and summaries on Instagram. Structurally, I preferred “How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen,” which had bullet points at the end of each section, but both books have solid and useful guidance.

I was familiar with Dr. Becky from watching some of her social media videos, and was excited about this book.

Her principles placed such importance, rightfully so, on the significance of validating your child's feelings and consistently building connections with their emotional experiences by sharing your own.

I felt this book had a lot of practical advice, such as having PNP time, engaging in your own self regulation/self-care, and providing scripts for how to validate and connect with your child's emotions and to create boundaries. From there, she describes how to apply the philosophy to several areas of parenting. The ones that resonated with me specifically were consent, building confidence, deeply feeling kids, frustration intolerance, hesitation and shyness, food and eating habits, and repair. After reading through her philosophy, you could focus on specific chapters, as they address a wide range of parenting challenges. At times it did feel "idealistic", however the underlying principle is strong.
