I love Dr. Kennedy’s work! And this book is a wonderful blend of high level systems and very practical advice.

This is parenting book that is a good mix of philosophy, application, and real-world strategies. At 1.5 my son feels a little young for a lot of the application, but the philosophy is good to start thinking as we approach discipline, problem solving, and attachment. I was under the impression that she was "gentle" parenting but this is not the case and a worthwhile look at what she calls "sturdy" parenting.

❤️❤️❤️❤️ if I could rate this higher, I would

If I could go back and give myself one parenting book, I think it would be this one. Full of practical tips, mantras and things to say. Definitely geared to parenting younger kids, but I picked up some things that were helpful for my teens.

*Separate behaviors - what we do - from identity - who we are. This does not mean letting yourself off the hook or making excuses for yourself. It means recognizing that you are good AND that you can do the hard work to improve.
*Our goal isn’t to shape behavior. Our goal is to raise humans.
*No parts of us are actually bad.
* Underneath bad behavior is always a good child.
