I discovered Dr. Becky Kennedy through Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things podcast. To say that Dr. Becky’s philosophies and parenting techniques are lifechanging is an understatement.
This is the most helpful, important book on parenting I have ever read. I completed a book study towards teacher certification hours and I’m so thankful I did.
If you are looking for a compassionate way to parent your children that is connection based, check this book out. There are many different scenarios discussed with scripts to guide you through handling them. I really appreciate the sections that address parent needs as caregivers, and the chapter about DFKs (Deeply Feeling Kids).
There is an exclusive discount to join Dr. Becky’s Good Inside membership in the back of the book, and there is also a Good Inside Podcast to check out too.

Very useful, but limited.
I’ve made some changes to my parenting that are very, very much for the better thanks to this book, but you need to take Dr Becky’s observations with a healthy skepticism. This isn’t a Bible, but rather a very detailed exposition of a very particular approach.
There’s some excellent, insightful reviews below that are well worth reading alongside the book.
Structure was a bit repetitive, and some evidence beyond pronouncements certainly would be useful (!!), but a book of genuine utility, which I’m glad to have read.

I really liked this book. I had followed Dr. Becky on Insta so I knew I would like her book. I found it to be very insightful and provides great tools and advice without making you feel shame or guilt for any of your
Past or current parenting choices. I also found myself feeling validated in a lot of my parenting anxieties, struggle and triggers and she provided the vocabulary to identify those triggers and how to work through them.
I wish I had this book when my child was younger but Dr. Becky also is positive about stating it is never too late to make changes and also repair any mistakes you had made in the past. There is a lot of information that is still applicable to older children, tweens and teens.
I also liked her incorporation of breath work, mindfulness and positive affirmations for both the parent and child. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make mindful and positive changes to your parenting.
