This is a wonderful beach read for the summer. Who knew a decoy could make such a riveting story
Predictable Hallmark Channel theme (driven career woman comes back to her small hometown and finds romance) is trite. But it’s saved by a little mystery and heist caper.
I like that this wasn’t quite a typical romance- the main characters are in their 40s, Laurie doesn’t want kids and likes living alone and doesn’t want to get married. I liked the idea of a non traditional relationship and the importance of maintaining your identity/not giving up too much for another person while also still finding ways to have a meaningful relationship.
This was a kind of nature romance.
I also likes to see Laurie’s love fit her aunt and her investigation of this mysterious duck. It was pretty well written .

If this was a cozy mysteries, somebody would've died over the damn duck.
I loved Evvie Drake, but this was a little bit of a skew on your regular romance novel. Laurie is back in her small Maine town (Evvie gets a shoutout too) cleaning out her 93 year old great aunt Dot's house. Dot was a single lady--but then comes the duck.
I did like this book, but I don't feel like writing a review. Laurie's life is kind of goals -- hot librarian, your own space...and the duck.
Definitely check it out, but don't expect it to be your typical romance novel.

A nice easy read, a little hallmark-y at times but it was sweet.
A cute story but really nothing to write home about
I was really hoping for more with this book. I feel like it just fell flat for me. The story about the duck was really the best part of the book but I wanted more from some of the characters. I wanted to know more about their history. This could have been great it missed the mark. Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an eARC of this book.
3.5 especially because I love the audiobook narrator.
Really interesting premise and exploration of societal expectations on women woven into a mystery to solve.
