i'm a big fan of linda holmes's writing and this did not disappoint. her writing is so easy to read because it's so inviting and smart. i really enjoyed the premise of this book! equal parts mystery/adventure and blossoming of an old romance. i also looove the representation!

Having gotten married after 40 and with no kids by choice, I *so* wish this book had existed 10 years ago. The characters are charming and engaging-and I can’t remember the last book I read where it’s literally fine that the main character chooses to remain unmarried and enjoys their own space. And that the main character is a size 18 without it being a big deal-it’s just nice to have a lead character who isn’t fighting her own corporeal existence-she’s smart and sexy and absolutely lovable.

I liked the cozy mystery aspect and the hijinks that follow. Linda Holmes has a gift for writing big and small feelings, and of the experience of caring for and being cared for by others. Her books are a safe place - where there’s anger and disappointment, love and compassion, hellos and goodbyes. And some amazingly corny jokes. I love the corny jokes.

I’m grateful to Libro.fm for the advanced listening copy, especially because Julia Whelan is the perfect narrator for this story.

Good, interesting, but not as good as EEvie Drake

the ducks!! easy to read and cute. I love a story where they dive into the past to learn the history of someone they loved.

A mystery and more! It kind-of, sort-of is a romance? More just an intersting novel.

It’s set in summer, but this book is COZY. I would also 100% read a prequel that’s just about Dot. She sounds awesome. I loved the mystery portion, I loved going through her belongings (definition of a magazine editor’s house vibe), I loved that Laurie was 40 and a size 18 but it’s only ever casually mentioned as an aside. I loved that Junie was married with kids but that wasn’t her whole identity
. I love that her and Nick end up together but not in a happily ever after married way.
This book demonstrated nuance in choices in a way I have so rarely seen, especially with lighter fiction!
