Liked this one, but didn’t love it.

I think the characters were all done well and you definitely got to know each character and their relationship with Hollis.

I am not sure if there’s really anything that specifically made this a 3.5 instead of a 4 or 5 star, it just didn’t hit the 5 star spot for me 🤷🏼‍♀️

I listed the fatphobia and body shaming as content warnings because one of the characters is obsessive over her body and talks frequently about the food she “shouldn’t” be eating on the trip

A bubblegum ice cream beach read that covers serious topics yet manages to feel somewhat lacking in depth. Tackling death of a spouse, “cancel culture”,
coming out at a later age
, breast cancer, and infidelity (for it is an Elin Hildebrand book) while still having the same tone and mood of all Elin’s books puts it in beach books that should have a heart but seem somewhat stilted. Cool concept!

The Five Star Weekend by Elin Hilderbrand

⭐️⭐️ (2/5)

Genre: Women’s Fiction

About 370 pages

After tragically losing her husband, Hollis could use a five-star weekend. So she sets out to create a weekend that will not only feel like a divine five-star experience but will include the five stars of her life. The idea is to invite someone from each phase of her life. So Hollis, her childhood BFF (Tatum), college BFF (Dru-Ann), a close friend from when her daughter was growing up (Brooke), and her new internet friend (Gigi) will spend the weekend at her beautiful Nantucket home. What should be a picture-perfect weekend doesn’t go quite as planned as each woman is dealing with their own problems and one woman in particular is keeping a pretty big secret from Hollis. The Five Star Weekend tells the story of how adult friendships evolve and the good, the bad, and the ugly that can come from a girls' trip 😂

The concept of doing a five-star was fun and cool to me….tbh still is after reading this book. But this book didn’t hit quite the way I wanted it to… I think it may be because all the characters were in their 50s so I just didn’t connect with them. Hilderbrand’s books tend to be hit or miss for me, but I know I will certainly end up reading more of them next summer.

Hoping to squeeze in one more summer read before the sunny weather goes away ☀️

What a great summer read! Plenty of twists and turns to keep you wanting more and an ending tied everything together. I always love this author’s books.
