I am a big fan of Lisa Lutz Spellman Files series so I was pretty excited to read up her latest. I have to say I didn’t enjoy it as much as the Spellman series but overall it wasn’t too bad.
We meet Tanya Dubios who is on the run after her husband Frank “accidentally” fell down the stairs and dies. Instead of dealing with the police she decides to withdraw money from different ATM machines, change her identity and make a run for it .While bar hopping she meets an interesting character Blue who sees through her disguise and they form a shaky friendship but Tanya may have bitten more than she can chew.
Tanya throughout the book tries out different identities and through them and a mysterious guy Ryan whom she emails we come to know more about her past life. While the book starts strong in the middle when Tanya changes identities it loses its pace and I lost interest. But the book picks up again in the later half. The ending was good and Lutz’s does a great job of explaining why Tanya was on the run .
I do like Lisa Lutz’s writing and could see glimpses of her wit and satire that you usually find in her Spellman series in this book .I would have liked to see more about the character Blue who mysteriously leaves and arrives back in Tanya’s life conveniently , Then there is Domenic who provides some entertainment in Tanya’s life but is unlike any other cop you have ever met.
I would give this book 3 ½ stars as I couldn’t connect with Tanya at all . Even though the story is told in first person we do not get a clear idea of who Tanya really is and it might be because the author wanted to portray that Tanya lost her own self while adopting so many different identities. I wouldn’t call it a psychological thriller but a mystery book that I liked just okay.

I listened to this on audiobook and although at first it was hard for me to get into, once I did, I enjoyed it. Nothing exceptional, but definitely an entertaining enough read.

There was too much going on in this book. There were so many story lines to create mystery and drama but it made it less interesting for me. I would have liked more of a character development at one point to get interested in the characters but that didn’t happen.

this one kind of fell flat. wasn’t thrilled, the mystery wasn’t shocking enough to keep me gripped. it was fast paced and solid read but just not my fav over all.
