she makes good points but god she could use Mrs. Brand's AP english class there is no direction to this book (that or I am a drone who missed it)

DNF 30% in because of the Truly Terrible narration. It just sounds like a speech to text robot sometimes. I’ve tried slowing it down and speeding it up, it’s always the worst. My eyes just instantly glaze over. I’ll have to try and get it from the library sometimes.

No rating because I don’t think I really even consumed anything of it and seems unfair to give it 1 star when that’s the case.

Do avoid the audiobook though!

DID NOT FINISH

Lord, this is a mess. The author prefaced the book by saying it’s not exactly cohesive and she was right. I got a little over 50% through and decided it was not worth my time to try and decipher what in the world she was talking about. The only good thing that came out of this reading experience was that I finally deleted my work email from my phone.

Some interesting points but I found it hard to slog through the language. Seemed unnecessarily academic.

DNF.

It had so much potential, but my Lord, what a horrible book.

Pretentious, self-indulgent, overly elitist-political with an uncorrelated narrative. The main theme slips off her so many times. I refuse wasting any more of my time with this.

I can’t understand how this book is so highly rated.

Just a big NO.

I liked this one a lot. Odell does a fantastic job of putting her finger on many aspects of social media that have always irked me, an “old millennial,” but I couldn’t quite put into words. I would perhaps have liked to get a bit more of the personal in the mix of history, ecology and social commentary but overall a well-researched and thoughtful inspiration to put down the screens and engage with the world around us.
