At first I wasn't a fan of the writing, it felt very juvenile however as I kept reading I got more attached to the characters. The plot of the world is interesting I just was not a big fan of the writing style and the way the characters spoke and acted.m especially in an apocalypse type scenario.

i loved this book - the characters, the plot, the descriptions and settings will pull you in. I just love women and it is clear that an actual woman wrote these characters and wrote how accurately women and men would react to this apocalypse. There is only one negative thing I have to say which is that at times the dialogue feels forced and doesn’t feel like things real people would say, like it sounds robotic and written as opposed to being spoken by the character if that makes sense.

the ending is devastating with ford dying - my heart just broke for Mercury and then Stella feeling like she can’t trust herself is all just so sad. I also started crying harder at the beautiful moment when Imani tells Mercury that her loss doesn’t take away hers.
I am so excited to read into the dust!

Interesting premise; terrible execution. Incredibly ham-fisted

I genuinely couldn’t make it past 10 minutes listening to this. The writing was so incredibly bad. The dialogue genuinely made me physically cringe at least 7 times in those 10 minutes. The exposition was laughable, the exact type of writing everyone makes fun of on booktok. I genuinely never DNF because I know I can always get through even a horrible book but in this case decided not to subject myself to such poor writing

This was a solidly entertaining book. The introductory chapters were rough, and I wasn't really sold on the author's voice, but I felt it improved a lot when the apocalyptic shit started to go down. Nothing was really spectacular in terms of characters, plot, or writing, but I still found it enjoyable enough. I was a bit annoyed about the wild implausibility of the green mist and its effects
Spoiler(when they started getting mystical superhero powers it definitely was a little much for me)
.

Also a couple ideas re: women being better at running things than men which I found silly. One notable example is they take in a 16 year old girl and she wants to drink wine, and they let her and say in their new world they'll lower the drinking age. But basically the whole reason the drinking age is 21 in the US is because of a long campaign by a group of women (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
